Rutland-Melton International CiCLE Classic

In 2023, GSG UK began its exciting partnership with the iconic CiCLE Classic, a race that stands as a true favourite in the UK peloton. The International Rutland-Melton CiCLE Classic, a UCI 1.2 event, is the largest one-day race on the British calendar and a highlight for cyclists and fans alike.

Over the years, the CiCLE Classic has attracted top talent, with recent winners including Luke Lamperti, now racing in the WorldTour with Soudal QuickStep, and Ben Granger of Mg.K Vis Costruzioni e Ambiente. The race stretches across 177 kilometres of challenging terrain, incorporating rolling hills, tough gravel sectors, and rugged farm tracks in the picturesque counties of Rutland and East Leicestershire. It’s a race that’s as much about grit and strategy as it is about speed, making it a favourite for spectators year after year.

Every winner of the CiCLE Classic receives the coveted GSG winners' jersey, a symbol of triumph in one of the toughest one-day races. This jersey represents more than just a victory on the day; it stands for the hard work, dedication, and perseverance required to conquer this demanding event.

In 2017, former professional rider Dan Fleeman, riding for Metaltek-Kuota, made a stunning upset by outwitting the larger continental teams to secure a historic win. Dan achieved this remarkable feat while proudly wearing the GSG Race Suit, underscoring the quality of our kit.

The Women’s CiCLE Classic holds a unique place in British cycling history. It boasts the largest single-day prize list of any domestic women’s race in the UK, with a £1,000 prize for the winner and awards extending to 20th place. The race mirrors the International Men’s event in terms of its tough route, ensuring a truly challenging competition for all riders.

At a distance of 104 km, the Women’s race features many of the same demanding sectors as the men’s race, offering a true test of strength and endurance. Each edition of the race is a part of the annual British Cycling National Women’s Road Race Series, adding extra prestige to an already celebrated event.

Notable past winners include multiple Olympic gold medalist Katie Archibald and fellow Olympian Neah Evans, both of whom have left an indelible mark on the event.

The Junior CiCLE Classic is the premier event on the British Junior calendar, held each March to coincide with the spring classics season. Spanning 104 km, the junior race takes on the same tough gravel sectors that challenge the senior men and women riders, providing a true test for up-and-coming talent.

Winners of the junior race have gone on to achieve great things in the professional world, with former champions including James Shaw (now with EF Education-EasyPost), Sam Watson, and Josh Tarling (both now racing for Ineos Grenadiers).

At GSG UK, we are incredibly proud to support such a prestigious and well-loved event. The CiCLE Classic continues to capture the spirit of British cycling—tough, unpredictable, and full of passion. We look forward to many more years of collaboration, ensuring that the riders are equipped with the very best gear to take on this iconic race.
